Residential Habilitation Caregiver (Direct Support Professional) – Job Description
A Residential Habilitation Caregiver provides direct support to adults with developmental disabilities, helping them live as independently and successfully as possible in their homes and communities. Caregivers assist participants in developing, maintaining, and improving daily living skills while promoting dignity, choice, safety, and community inclusion.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist with daily living skills such as cooking, cleaning, laundry, personal hygiene, and household organization.
- Support participants in achieving goals identified in their service plans.
- Provide assistance with medication management as authorized and trained.
- Encourage community integration through recreational activities, appointments, shopping, and social events.
- Teach and reinforce skills that promote independence and self-sufficiency.
- Maintain accurate documentation of services provided, participant progress, and any incidents or concerns.
- Ensure the health, safety, and well-being of participants at all times.
- Communicate effectively with supervisors, team members, guardians, and other service providers.
- Respect participant rights, privacy, and personal choices while maintaining professional boundaries.
